As of tonight, Isaac is suppose to hit Lousiana with up to 25 inches of rain and severe storms. People are escaping from their neighborhoods and flooding. Over 7,000 residents have evacuated to shelters, roads have been closed. It has finally downgraded to a tropical storm.

How old are you in 1787? I was 50 years old.


Are you a federalist or Anti-Federalist? I am an Anti-Federalist.


What is your role in the constitution convention? I was the first to sign the Constitution.


What stated views would explain your actions during the constitutional convention? I'm tyring to persuade America in the right direction.


What is your stance during the ratifying convention? I opposed the creation of a stronger U.S. federal government and which later opposed the ratification of the Constitution of 1787


Who supports your viewpoint?
Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams, George Mason, Richard Henry Lee, Robert Yates, James Monroe
 


What are the benefits or dangers? They didn't want the constitution but had no alternative, while the federalists suggested the bill of rights.


What are your views of this new plan of government? I agree with the new form of government.

8/27 Notes

Constitution was signed Sept. 1787 & active 1789

Federalists supported the constitution with more power to the central government: James Madison, Rufus King, James Wilson, John Jay, George Read, Roger Sherman, Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, etc.

Anti-federalists wanted more power to the states rather than central government: Patrick Henry, Richard Henry Lee, Elbridge Gerry, George Mason, George Clinton, Samuel Adams, Robert Yates, Melancton Smith, etc.

The Federalist Papers written by 3 men, to get support for the constitution.
Constitution states that 9 states must ratify the constitution in order for it to become a government document.
Delaware was the 1st state; 9th state: New Hampshire; 13th state: Rhode Island

A written agreement of general rules for the country. A body of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is acknowledged to be governed.

2. How would your life be without the constitution ?
It would be chaotic without any rules.


3. Define the following words:


Ratification - To make something valid.

Faction- A small, organized, dissenting group within a larger one


Federalism-The federal principle or system of government.


Federalist/ Antifederalist-An advocate or supporter of federalism/political philosophy which opposes the concept of Federalism.


Compromise-An agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions.


The Great Compromise (Connecticut Compromise)-The Connecticut Compromise was an agreement between large and small states reached during the Constitutional Convention of 1787


Checks and Balances- Counterbalancing influences by which an organization or system is regulated, typically those ensuring that political power is not concentrated in the hands of individuals or groups


Democratic Republic- title that has often been used by Marxist-Leninist governments to describe their state


Delegated Powers of the Federal Government- Concurrent Powers are powers shared by the federal and state governments.


Reserved Powers of the State Governments- a power that can be exercised by the head of state without the aproval of another branch of another governments


Separation of Powers- a model of the governments of the state.


Civil Liberties- civil rights and freedoms that provide an individial specific right.

Unfortunatley people are upset about him waving the terrible towell. I wish people would look at what his political views are instead of preferred sports team. Although I would be lying if I didn't say I cringed at the thought of anyone liking the steelers.
